SARAH FITZ-GERALD - BIOGRAPHY
Sarah Fitz-Gerald AM, crowned World Open Champion and Commonwealth
Games gold medallist in 2002, is a professional squash player from
Melbourne, Australia.
A five times World Champion, 2001 and 2002 British Open Champion and
winner of sixty-five (65) Women’s International Squash Player
Association (WISPA) and World Tour titles, making her the most
successful present day player and one of the four greatest women
players ever with Heather McKay, Susan Devoy and Michelle Martin.
After holding the #1 ranking position unbroken for two (2) years.
Sarah underwent knee surgery in December 1998 and May 1999, returning
to competition in 2000.
In the October 2001 WISPA World Rankings Sarah reclaimed the No1
position
following a total of fifteen (15) WISPA World Tour title wins, which
was followed
with the capture of her fourth World Open title in her home town
Melbourne.
Sarah's career started by winning the World Junior Championship in
1987, before bursting onto the senior tour to win numerous major
titles as well as five (5) World team championships titles. World Cup
gold medals and 1998 Commonwealth Silver and Bronze medals.
Sarah has represented Australia from the age of fourteen (14), having
worn the
'green and gold' on seventy-five (75) separate occasions.
